  • What is a session like?
Sessions are typically 90 minutes for 1st (intake) sessions and 50 min per session after that. The intake session mainly involves learning about the individual, their concerns, their goals, and the various aspects of their life. At the end of the intake session, the therapist and client can identify treatment goals and start a plan for accomplishing those goals. Regular therapy sessions can vary in content, but will involve checking in with the client about how things are going, addressing concerns that have come up since the last appointment, and using various interventions to work towards the client's goals. These interventions can be verbal interventions, art therapy interventions, play interventions if the client is a child, or activity interventions. Sometimes, the client may be given homework to complete before the next appointment.
  • How much would therapy cost?
Intitial (intake sessions), which are 90 minutes, are $175, while regular 50 min. sessions are $150 per session. Looking Glass Psychological Services currently offers private pay and is not taking insurance, however, a superbill can be offered to clients to request partial reimbursement from their insurance for insurance companies who accept superbills. Benefits of private pay versus insurance are: -No need to submit diagnostic information about the client to any outside sources (ie insurance companies) -Insurance companies will not be dictating the number of sessions, frequency of sessions, or accepted treatments, therefore, all of these decisions can be made by the client and the provider for the best interest of the client. Sliding payment scales are available by request for some situations.
  • How frequently would I attend therapy and for how long?
Most clients receive the most benefit from weekly appointments, however there may be some situations in which twice a week appointments are warranted or in which every other week appointments are best. The length of therapy varies depending on the goals of therapy. Ideally, therapy ends when both the client and the provider feel that the client's treatment goals have been met. Even after therapy ends, the client may always have the option of making an appointment with the provider if subsequent issues come up or if they feel they need a "check in" or a "maintanence appointment."
  • How do I choose the right therapist?
Choosing the right therapist can seem overwhelming, but the most important thing is to find someone that you connect with well. The biggest indicator of sucessful therapy is a good connection with one's therapist. Not everyone finds the right therapist for them on the first try, but it is totally okay to try out others when one is not a good fit. When looking for therapists, the website www.psychologytoday.com can be really helpful. You can use the "find a therapist" option, put in your zipcode, and several therapists in your area will be shown. To narrow the search down, you can use filters such as issues the therapist works with, treatment modality, age range, gender, and even spiritual beliefs.
